"I was born in 1949 and raised in Manhattan Beach, California during the idyllic, sun-drenched days of my youth. I can’t imagine a better life.
We didn’t lock our doors and left the keys in the car – we had no paved streets or sidewalks. Everyone had a view of the beach and all of our mothers and fathers were an extension of our own family.
I graduated from Mira Costa High School in 1967 and left immediately for San Francisco to attend the infamous “Monterey Pop Festival” – that was a life changing experience that I was very fortunate to participate in and I think it pointed me in directions I never would have envisioned.
I pursued a career in banking (boring) that paid the bills but left nothing to the imagination…my ties to the beach and music were my outlet…I always volunteered to work the annual “Dewey Weber Surf Contest” where, in 1982, I met and fell in love with my very charming husband, Don Stroud.
He had entered the contest and won first place in the celebrity heat. He asked me to hold his trophy whilst he visited with some old friends. He was on a mission, which I was not aware of until he swept me off my feet….the rest is history.
We married in 1994 and traveled all over the world while he continued to work in film and television. Don and I worked as a team-he in front of the camera and I behind, doing whatever was needed. I liken it to being in the circus – we were all one big happy family – everyone had a love for what they were doing and it showed in their work.
Things changed drastically when my mother had a stroke – we stopped our life to take care of her life for the next ten years…it was the most difficult thing we have ever done, but also the most rewarding. When she passed away in 2005, we decided to grab some of that idyllic life we once had and sold or gave away everything we owned and moved to Hawaii.
Working as Talent Coordinator with my husband Don, on “NightTime with Andy Bumatai” is a challenge, an honor and a privilege and I feel very fortunate to be part of Hawaiian television history, especially at this time in my life. It doesn’t get any better than this!"
