Kurt Hutchison has been operating Camera 1 with Night Time since the first show.
Employed by Lewis Communications, some suspect (and rightly so,) he got here because he was friends with John Lewis from High School days. He also works as Assistant Editor for Night Time, helping John and Kyle to create the look of the show, collecting and editing on location footage. Along with Ace Bumatai, he is responsible for having produced on location segments seen on the show.
Diamond Head Theatre has seen him do stagehand and foley work through the years, and starting around 14 years old he was Gripping and Gaffing for several local commercials by the late 1970’s, in addition to production work with local music acts. He began playing music in 1979, creating original songs and playing cover music with multiple bands during the wild years of Hawaii’s underground music scene through the 80’s and 90’s. Kurt joined an existing studio with two partners and created “Morning Wood Productions”, rehearsal and recording studio. They produced music that varied from Local contemporary to Acid Punk, with bands like “The Killer Clowns”, “Abbey Normal” and Travel Light”. He has engineered, produced and played Road Manager, to name a few of the hats he has put on for the love of music.
Kurt has played in bands that have opened for “Kansas”, “The Chambers Brothers” and “Eric Burden and The New Animals”. During all this mayhem, he managed to work in construction as a high-end remodeler for 18 years (so he could eat, as music careers in Hawaii demand having a “real job” to make ends meet…) and worked on local productions in music, theatre and TV when opportunities became available.
More recently, during a two-year relocation to Phoenix, Arizona, he worked his way up to an Assistant Director/Assistant Editor position in a small production company called BAM Inc., Producing TV pilots, movies, shorts and music videos.
He is proud to be a part of the most important TV show from Hawaii to come along in years.
